Overview
'My baby brother's hair was as soft and dark as fine weeds. I stroked his tiny back, teasing the long fin on his spine. His mackerel tail beat weakly against the water. He was a prince of the sea, he was half human, and he was dying slowly.'
Mara’s mother is missing, her little brother is sick, her father is grieving. It all seems hopeless – until Mara sets out on a life or death journey to bring her mother home. This mermaid tale is based on the Danish legend behind Matthew Arnold’s beautiful poem ‘The Forsaken Merman’:
'Here came a mortal, But faithless was she: She left lonely for ever The kings of the sea…'
'Forsaken' is not a full-length novel, but a 'quick read'.
