About Me

Katherine LangrishI grew up in the Yorkshire Dales, and can’t remember a time when I wasn’t writing stories.  I loved reading, too, and my favourite books were the seven Narnia stories by C.S. Lewis. When I’d finished them I was desperate to read more about Narnia – but as C.S. Lewis had, unfortunately, died, I knew he wouldn’t be writing any more books. So I got an old blue notebook and started writing my own Narnia book! (To see a picture of it, go to my ‘Gallery’ page.) I think this was the moment I decided I wanted to be an author when I grew up.

I kept on writing stories – and sometimes sending them off to publishers – and although nothing got published, I loved writing too much to be put off. I also loved horses – and as we lived in the country, I was lucky enough to have a pony, called Dapple. I thought I might be a riding instructor as well as an author – but that’s one dream that hasn’t come true.

Instead I studied English at university, got a job, got married, had children and went to live in France and then in America. I was almost too busy to write – so, instead, I began visiting libraries and schools, telling stories aloud. This turned out to be really good practice for being an author! At last we moved back to England, and I sat down to begin writing the story that turned into ‘Troll Fell’.

I really enjoy being an author at last. And it’s not all sitting at home in front of a computer. While I was researching Viking ships for ‘Troll Blood’, I went to Denmark and spent a week sailing on a reconstructed Viking Age ship on a Danish fjord. It was the best holiday ever!
